Violence against children is not a joke

Say ‘no’ to any form of violence

The Child and Teenager Division (DCA in Portuguese) of Recife Municipality wants to improve the notification of rights violation. It is important to identify the violence and make it visible so that the authorities can take the concerning providences. Violence affects mental and physical health and harms the development of children and teenagers.

·         Discrimination
·         Sexual violence
·         Torture
·         Physical violence
·         Negligence and abandon
·         Child work
·         Human traffic

 

Know what the law says

According to the Brazilian Child and Teenager Bylaw, “no child or teenager will be object of negligence, discrimination, explotation, violence, harshness and oppression, being punished in the form of the law any attempt, by either action or omission, to their fundamental rights”. Still according to the bylaw, “child work is forbidden in Brazil to children and teenagers up to 16 years old, except in the condition of apprentice, from the age of 14”.

Remember: children and teenagers have the right to especial protection, due to their condition of people in development.


Tips for tackling rights violation

·         Be aware to any situation of abandon, negligence and home, sexual or psychological violence.
·         Notify any kind of violation: silence is not the best way out.
·         Do not allow that children and teenagers transit or be hosted in hotels unaccompanied by a parent or another legally responsible person.
·         Show that the child/teenager is not alone: believe him/her.
·         Encourage them to search for professional help.
·         Incentivate their self-esteem.

Violencia contra niños no es chiste

 

Diga ‘no’ a cualquier forma de violencia

La División de Niños y Adolecentes (DCA in Portuguese)  del Ayuntamiento de la Ciudad de Recife quiere estimular la denuncia de violación de derechos. Es importante identificar la violencia y hacerla visible para que las debidas providencias sean tomadas por las autoridades competentes. La violencia afecta la salud física y mental y amenaza el desarrollo de niños y adolecentes.

 

Tipos de violaciones contra niños y adolescentes

·         Violencia psicológica
·         Discriminación
·         Violencia sexual
·         Tortura
·         Violencia física
·         Negligencia y abandono
·         Trabajo infantil
·         Tráfico humano 

Sepa Ud. lo que dice la ley

De acuerdo con el Estatuto del Niño y del Adolecente, “ningún niño o adolecente será objecto de negligencia, discriminación, explotación, violencia, crueldad u opresión, siendo punida en la forma de la ley cualquier atentado, por ación u omisión, a sus derechos fundamentales”. Todavía según el estatuto, “el trabajo infantil es prohibido en Brasil para niños y adolescentes hasta los 16 años, excepto en la condición de aprendíz, a partir de los 14 años”.

Acuérdese Ud.: niños y adolescentes tienen el derecho a proteción especial, debido a su condición de personas en desarollo. 

Pistas para enfrentar la violación de derechos

·         Quedarse atento a cualquier situación de abandono, negligencia y violencia doméstica, sexual y psicológica.
·         Informar todo tipo de violación: el silencio no es la mejor salida.
·         No permitir que niños o adolecentes transiten o estén albergados en hoteles sin sus responsables legales.
·         Mostrar que el niño/adolecente no está sólo: dar crédito a lo que dice.
·         Incentivar que busque un profesional para ayudarle.
·         Incentivar la confianza del niño/adolecente.
