The best airport in the country according to the Brazilian passengers

And one of the most beautiful too. Photo: Wikipedia.

A recent research (whose results were spread in a business magazine) was celebrated in Recife because it gave the first place in Brazilian passengers' preference to the Guararapes / Gilberto Freyre / Recife International Airport (the main international airports in Brazil are triple named - we in Recife call ours simply "Guararapes Airport").

In the article about the research are explained the positive aspects mentioned by the passengers and some of the negatives. I'll comment about these ones, including details not spoken in that text. It will be useful for some tourists in World Cup.

Buses from the airport
All Brazilian capitals I needed to take a bus from the airport - Rio, São Paulo, Curitiba and Salvador - have bus lines to link such airports to the cities' downtown. Recife also has: the 042. The vehicles offers air conditioning and the tickets are cheap: R$ 2,70 (a little bit more from one dollar) versus +- R$ 9,00 in Rio and R$ 32,00 in São Paulo. The only problem is that 042's vehicles have no luggage carrier. It serves as a mere alternative urban bus line.

Taxi
At Guararapes Airport, there are the pre-paid and the common post-paid taxis (these ones are a little surtaxed than the others post-paid, outside the airport). For foreign tourists, pre-paid have the advantage of carrying you direct to your hotel, without danger of being puttered/pottered, even they are more expensive than post-paid.

Underground/subway walkway
The walkway that will link the airport to the underground* station won't be opened to all pedestrians, only for the people who will go from a place to the other. It's not working yet, despite it was planned in aim to the World Cup. (*In Recife the underground/subway is in the surface).

Bike parking
There is a simple iron bar to rest your bike in the square in front of the old airport terminal. Not recommended to put yours.

Safety
Getting out of the airport walking 1. only if you are going to pick up the 042 or the bus to Porto de Galinhas beach (R$ 10,90 with air conditioning and luggage carrier); 2. if you have only hand luggage or a simple backpack and 3. it's not after 8 p.m.

Lifts/elavators
Unfortunately there are only two lifts available - and so squeezed: you cannot put more than two luggage cars in one of them. Other two lifts are being installed but won't be ready until the World Cup.

High price of the meals
A problem of all airports I think. There is a popular restaurant in the second floor (of the bench Casa dos Frios and with the flag of Pernambuco state) that can save you in case of few money.
